Movie Screening: Taking Flight: The Nadine Ramsey Story

Join us for a special screening of the award-winning documentary Taking Flight: The Nadine Ramsey Story as we celebrate what would have been Nadine Ramsey's 115th birthday.

Born in Illinois in 1911, Nadine Ramsey spent part of her childhood in El Dorado, where her family was connected to the booming oil industry before later moving to Wichita. It was there that she secretly pursued her dream of flying at a time when women were rarely welcomed in the cockpit.

After earning her pilot's license, Nadine became one of the first women in the United States to fly mail for the U.S. Postal Service. When World War II began, she answered the call to serve her country as a member of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP), becoming the first woman to fly a P-38 Lightning. Despite suffering serious injuries in a crash, Nadine dedicated the rest of her life to advocating for the recognition and benefits earned by the women who served alongside her.

On August 28, we invite our community to honor Nadine's extraordinary legacy on what would have been her 115th birthday. This inspiring documentary celebrates a trailblazing Kansan whose courage, perseverance, and love of flight continue to inspire generations.
